Troilus and Cressida
By. William Skaespear
Febuary 2025. USC Bing Theater
William Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida is a cynical "problem play" set during the Trojan War, focusing on the doomed romance between the Trojan prince Troilus and Cressida, who are separated when she is traded to the Greeks. Amidst themes of betrayal, flawed heroism, and honor, Cressida pledges fidelity but ultimately breaks it with the Greek Diomedes, while Troilus suffers heartbreak, and the war rages on without resolution.
Our Concept:
Set in a post-apocalyptic Downtown Los Angeles, the USC Trojans battle against the UCLA Bruins in a Trojan War-style conflict. Much of the pre-emptive design process for this show revolved around finding what our version of the apocalypse looked like. What we landed on was a Mad Max and Planet of the Apes: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes style climate apocalypse.
