Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters (1900) follows Olga, Masha, and Irina Prozorov, who are stuck in a stagnant Russian provincial town, longing to return to Moscow after their father’s death. Over three years, their hopes fade into disillusionment as they endure unhappy love lives, tedious work, and a brother who squanders their fortune, ultimately resigned to enduring their bleak reality.
